In this module, you’ll get familiar with the course structure and learn what to expect from your perspective journey. 

In this module, you’ll build a strong foundation in value and learn how light and dark areas create depth and volume. You’ll explore hatching techniques, practice creating smooth tonal transitions, and develop a value scale from 1 to 10 using pen and pencil. You’ll also apply these skills to shading a multifaceted object and understanding how different values interact across its surfaces.

In this module, you’ll learn how light interacts with objects and how to use it to create believable form and volume. You’ll explore the difference between direct and diffused light, study the five elements of light on form, and practice shading simple objects from different light directions. You’ll also compare natural and artificial light before applying your knowledge in a still-life drawing focused on clear light direction.

In this module, you’ll learn how to understand and construct cast shadows based on the direction and type of light source. You’ll practice projecting shadows from basic forms like cubes, cylinders, and cones, while exploring the differences between sunlight and artificial light. You’ll also learn to use rulers and vanishing points to cast accurate shadows in perspective and apply these techniques to ground planes and a simple street scene.

In this module, you’ll learn how to use value and shading to create depth in perspective scenes. You’ll practice applying light and shadow logic to a two-point perspective street scene and explore how sunlight and artificial light enter a space through windows. Finally, you’ll bring these concepts together by lighting and shading a one-point perspective room interior.

In this module, you’ll be introduced to color using alcohol-based markers and learn how to work with a limited palette of just 3–5 colors. You’ll explore how to create light and dark values with a single hue, as well as understand the basics of warm and cool color temperatures. You’ll put these concepts into practice through a color and value study of a simple street corner building.

In this module, you’ll learn how to render a variety of textures and materials using markers and ink. You’ll practice creating believable surfaces such as wood, brick, glass, and metal, while building a quick-reference library of textures and experimenting with different materials on a single object. You’ll then apply these skills in a final architectural illustration project combining marker and ink techniques.

In this final module, you’ll bring together all the skills developed throughout the course in a complete architectural illustration. You’ll learn how to plan your final piece, develop the initial outline, and build the drawing step by step with pen. You’ll then layer color, add materials and textures, and finish the scene by applying believable shadows and lighting.
